Merry Christmas from NBCS!

Dear NBCS Friends and Supporters,

Merry Christmas from NBCS! We are so thankful to be able to share with you an update about 2020 at NBCS. Last school year ended with challenges no one could have foreseen, but God graciously provided the technology and tech support that we needed to move school online. Using Zoom, Google Classroom and Seesaw, students completed their studies, and our four eighth grade graduates were honored during a ceremony in June. The students grew to love Mr. Bruce Plank as he came to do chapel once and month, and he agreed to give the commencement address to the graduates.

Our enrollment in August remained steady, and we currently have 34 students enrolled in Kindergarten through 8th grade. This year God provided two new teachers for our staff. KaCee McCoy is teaching 1st and 2nd grade, and Mario Triana is our 3rd and 4th grade teacher. Being in an environment where they can share their faith with their students has been a blessing to both of them.  Our returning staff includes Marisa Foster (K), Ginger Pinkston (5-6), Marcia Zuercher (7-8), Carissa Huxman (Office Manager), Amanda Stucky (Music), and Sharon Regier (5-6, Principal). Because our classes are small, we are able to physically distance the desks, and school resumed on campus in August. We are so thankful each day for the good health our students and staff have enjoyed.

Recently, I was challenged by these words among the final words of Moses to Israel, “Take to heart all the words by which I am warning you today, that you may command them to your children, that they may be careful to do all the words of this law. For it is no empty word for you, but your very life,…” (Dt. 32:46-47a ESV) First, Moses told the people to take the words to heart. The leading generation was to get serious about the Word of God. Then they were to command them to their children. There is a great responsibility not just to suggest or quietly example, but to deliberately and passionately pass God’s Word onto the next generation. The motivation that Moses gives for this explains why this is important. These words are “your very life.” When we teach students at NBCS from God’s Word, we are sharing with them life-giving truth. “The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death.” (Proverbs 13:14, ESV) Parents maintain the primary responsibility for this, but as a Christian school, we too have a great job to do in sharing wisdom. This is the heart of what we do.

The work that we do, we cannot do alone. Many of our families make a financial sacrifice to send their children to NBCS, and it is through the loving support of many that we are able to keep our tuition affordable. Each year God provides about thirty percent of our budget through donations. Typically, we also have two large fundraisers, one in each semester. This year, we had to forego Family Fun Night in September, and we do not know if we will be able to hold our Eagle 5K in the spring. We are trusting God to provide in spite of our circumstances. A look back through the records of NBCS easily shows that God has been faithful each year in meeting the needs of this ministry. We also know that God is working in response to the prayer of many who faithfully pray for our staff and students.

As we wish you a Merry Christmas, we also wish to let you know that we are so thankful for you and your encouraging support of NBCS!
