NBCS Memo - November 13

Mrs.

Pinkston

2020-2021
5th-6th Grade Teacher
How long have you been at NBCS? This is my twelfth year teaching, but second year at NBCS. Last year I taught 3rd-4th grade, but this year I am returning to teaching 5th-6th graders at NBCS after taking some time off to give birth to my son Levi!

What have you loved most about NBCS? I love the people I get to work with  - students and staff! We have an amazing group of people at our school, and it is fun to grow in faith together!

What is a fun fact about you? I shared a house with Mrs. Foster for about 8 years - including one year in college!

What are your favorite things to do outside of school? I love spending quality time with my friends and family. Usually it involves playing or watching sports, hiking, camping, baking, or just sipping coffee and visiting! These days I'm especially enjoying watching my baby Levi grow and learn each day!

What is your favorite snack? Dark chocolate or cookies…with coffee, of course!

What is your favorite Bible verse? Ephesians 2:10, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

How may we be praying for you this coming year? I would love prayer for words of grace and love for each of my students, a smooth transition back to school-life, and balancing school and home well.

We are excited to share in a Thanksgiving Feast together this Thursday, November 19. Students are encouraged to come to school dressed as Pilgrims and Indians for this event. We are looking forward to feasting together! And remember - there is no need to pack a lunch. Mr. and Mrs. Robinson will have prepared a feast for all the students!

Our Student Picture Day is this next Friday, November 20th! Have your students come dressed in their best and ready to smile for the camera! Please see below for an example of this year's background. You may dress accordingly.

Information from GS Memorymaker regarding this year's portraits...

GS Memorymaker is proud to offer our "Simplicity" collection.

Clean lines, minimal props, and of course many choices for your selection.

Again, we will offer you a chance to see your images prior to making any buying commitment.

We are excited to feature a "contactless ordering system" where you may View, Choose, and Purchase all from your computer or mobile device!  Additionally, all orders will be sent directly to your home.

Monitoring for Symptoms
As we near Thanksgiving reunions with long distance family and friends, we want to be extra careful to keep our students healthy. Please continue to carefully monitor your students. If they show signs of any symptoms, please do not hesitate to keep them home from school. These symptoms may include:
  • Temperature of 99.0 or higher
  • Chills
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • Lower respiratory illness
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Diarrhea
  • Congestion
  • Runny Nose
  • Vomiting
Educational Grant Deadline
Parents, please check your email for information from the NBCS leadership regarding Spring Educational Grants. We are asking for applications for financial aid to be turned in by this Monday, November 16. The School Board is currently looking for ways to raise funds for our Educational Grant Fund and will let families know as soon as funds are available and the amount they will receive.

If you would like to donate money to this fund, that would be a great blessing! Please indicate the check or money that you give is for the educational grant fund.
Snow Day Communication
It is the beginning of November and we have already had a "snow" day! As a reminder, if school is delayed or canceled due to weather, we will primarily communicate through a school-wide email, Facebook post, and posting on KWCH. Your teachers may also text you the news, but please check email, Facebook, or KWCH if there is inclement weather. Thank you!
