NBCS Memo - January 13

Jesus answered… "We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work…” John 9:4

We have an incredible opportunity. Every day, we have the freedom at Newton Bible Christian School to speak God’s truth into student’s lives. We are free to choose curriculum that honors a Biblical worldview. We are free to hire teachers who adhere to this worldview. We are free to accept students whose families agree with our statement of faith. What a privilege!

We are given the opportunity to instruct children about what it means to live by faith and follow Jesus. When we teach them to be “good citizens,” we can present Scripture that provides authority for our teaching. We can require students to hide God’s Word in their hearts, so that the Holy Spirit can use it to correct, convict, and direct them. We can place before our students the picture of a lost world and the call to be Gospel-bearers. What a privilege!

Recognizing this freedom and its tenuous nature, provides a sense of urgency. We are not guaranteed freedom, but we have it this year. It is easy to take for granted that this freedom will always be available and then allow a false security to lull us into apathy. We must embrace the opportunity to provide Christian families with what a Christian education can offer, and we must spur our students on to do their part in reaching others for Christ. By God’s grace NBCS exists, and by His grace we must be faithful to the task of educating students with excellence while helping them grow in faith, in love, and in service.

“Facing a task unfinished
That drives us to our knees
A need that, undiminished
Rebukes our slothful ease
We, who rejoice to know Thee
Renew before Thy throne
The solemn pledge we owe Thee
To go and make Thee known.”

NBCS will not have school on Monday, January 16.
Enjoy your three-day weekend!

Students will be extra cozy for school next Friday, January 20!  Everyone is invited to wear slippers and sweats to school!  Please make sure all apparel is modest and in accordance with NBCS dress code standards.

Plans are underway for our Kansas Day Celebration on Friday, January 27! The activities of this day will involve all the students. Parents, we will need lots of drivers to make this day happen! If you are willing to drive, please email Carissa at nbcs@newtonbible.org.

Don't forget, we love when students dress up for Kansas Day! Whether you dress as a train conductor, a passenger with suitcase, or a traditional KS prairie girl or cowboy, we will enjoy celebrating Kansas' history together!

**Attention Parents, Students, Alumni, Supporters, and Friends!**

 Please save-the-date for April 28, 2023!
We are thrilled to have J.J. Jasper join us for our 50th Anniversary Celebration! Mark your calendars and plan to celebrate with us as we reflect on all God has done in and through NBCS since 1973!

Click here to visit our anniversary event page on Facebook. Please feel free to share this event with anyone who has been involved in the ministry of NBCS over the years! Even if they are not able to attend the celebration, they will enjoy the pictures and memories we share in the coming months!

"Meet" our speaker for the evening by reading the bio below!

Our 50th Anniversary Celebration's guest speaker, JJ Jasper, is a veteran morning on-air radio personality, best-selling author, comedian, dedicated Christian, and devoted family man.

JJ hosts a national morning radio show on the American Family Radio network (approximately 200 stations in 36 states). When he’s not motivating listeners with his unique brand of humor and encouragement, he's entertaining people as a stand-up comedian and keynote speaker.

He is the author of Losing Cooper: Finding Hope to Grieve WellMoses Was a Basket Case, and Jonah Had a Whale of a Time.

JJ and his wife, Melanie, have a soft spot for Christian education. Over the years, they have seen the investment they made at work in the lives of their children and are so thankful that they set them up on a strong foundation in the Lord. "You cannot put a value on the Word of God being at the center of your kid's life."

JJ is looking forward to the time that he will spend at NBCS and sharing his message about how a Christ-centered education is worth it all. Here's a quote from JJ that is worthy of our consideration: "Neutrality in education can be pretended, but never accomplished. Someone's values will always be taught."
