NBCS Memo - February 28

Why Christian Education?

There are many possible answers to the question of why Christian education. Chief among them is the key thing that separates Christian education from secular education; that is all subjects are taught from a biblical worldview. Students in a Christian school are taught science, math, history and English from a Christian perspective. They view these subjects by learning truth as the Bible presents it.

Christian education does more than this though. Truly Christian education not only presents the world from a Biblical viewpoint, but it also teaches students how to think and respond biblically to the world around them. Students in a Christian school are learning to see themselves, their peers, and society around them biblically. Those who know the truth have knowledge; those who use the truth for righteousness have wisdom.

The Christian school classroom is a dynamic environment. Yes, we memorize lists and facts, but much more takes place under the leadership of a godly teacher. Students are challenged to solve problems, answer questions and evaluate topics through the lens of the Bible. In this way, students are taught not just to be consumers of knowledge, but to be users of knowledge. Christian school students are not only taught about obedience, honor and love; they see these qualities modeled and are taught to respond with Christlikeness even in difficult moments.

The purpose of Christian education is not primarily to shelter students from the world, though in many ways that is a benefit of the Christian school environment. Christian education is a training ground for soldiers who will be prepared to enter the world fighting the “good fight of faith.” Whether it is through an intentionally planned encounter with the elderly or an impromptu moment on the playground, Christian education opens the door for youth to learn to love others and to serve God for His glory. It is in serving and glorifying our Savior that we live life to its fullest. This is the value of Christian education.

“My son, eat honey for it is good, and the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste. Know that wisdom is such to your soul if you find it, there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off.”

2020-21 Enrollment is open at Newton Bible Christian School!
All are invited to our Open House THIS Thursday, March 5th at 6:30 p.m. Parents and students may meet the teachers, browse the classrooms and curriculum, hear 2020-21 plans from school leaders, and end the evening at 7:30 with a family movie night and snacks in the gym. There will also be organized activities for kids during the first hour. Please click on the image above to download a flyer or email nbcs@newtonbible.org for more information!

If you know of families who are looking for schooling options, please invite them to our Open House event! This is a fun opportunity for them to learn more about NBCS. They may also mark their calendars to attend our Shadow Day on March 25th, or schedule a separate day to tour the school or visit a classroom!

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on March 10th from 4:00-7:00 p.m.  As we schedule these meetings, it would be helpful to hear from you. If there is a time that is not convenient for your schedule, please communicate that to Carissa TODAY.  She will then adjust the schedule accordingly.

Please click here to download your copy of our March calendar. It is a month full of special events, spirit days, and SPRING BREAK! We are looking forward to a wonderful month.

2020-21 Re-Enrollment Forms went home this next week. These will be due back by March 27th. Please let us know if you have any questions concerning the 2020-21 school year and know that we are praying for you as you seek God's guidance concerning the education of your children.

Annual Eagle 5K
Saturday, April 4, 2020 at 9:00 a.m.
Athletic Park, Newton, KS

Our annual Eagle 5K Fun Run/Walk event is fast approaching!  This event is one of our largest fundraisers each year - and one of our favorite times together!  Whether you run, walk, or crawl, all are encouraged to join us in supporting NBCS in this way.

How can YOU help?

1. Register to Run/Walk - You may register by emailing Carissa at nbcs@newtonbible.org or calling 316-283-1337.
Registrations must be in by Friday, March 27th to receive the discounted price!

2. Ask Sponsors - Students only have to raise a minimum of $15 and their registration is free (PLUS they receive a free t-shirt)!  But, raise more and students will be in the running for a class pizza party and be supporting their school!  Students have received sponsorship forms.  These may be copied and distributed to everyone you know!  This is an easy way to help support NBCS and spread the word about our school.

3. Volunteer - This race cannot happen without your help.  Even if you do not race, there are many ways for you to get involved!  We need volunteers to help at the registration table, stand at different points throughout the race, and helping with timing.  We also need volunteers to bring refreshments (bananas, cookies, or donuts). Please email Carissa at nbcs@newtonbible.org if you are willing to help at this event or sign up on the volunteer form on the school bulletin board.

4. Distribute Flyers - Eagle 5K flyers are available in the school office.  Stop by and pick some up to spread around town!

Following our NBCS Open House, there will be NO SCHOOL this next Friday, March 6th. This will be a work day for our staff - and an extra long weekend for you!

There is currently one full-time teaching position open for the 2020-21 school year, as well as a possible part-time pre-k teacher position. We are praising God that all of our staff plan to return next year. Please contact the school office or Mrs. Regier for more information. You may email principal@newtonbible.org or call 316-283-1337.
